The predict of Identity Styles through Attachment Styles

Abstract

Current study performed to predict of identity styles through attachment styles. The method of this study was descriptive in kind of correlation. The study sample included 130 students from Bu Ali Sina University, were selected using multistage cluster sampling. Attachment styles were evaluated by Hazan & shaver Adult Attachment Scale (AAS) and identity styles evaluated by berzonsky identity style inventory. Findings indicated that there is significant relation between attachment styles and identity styles. There is a significant relationship between gender and identity styles, but there is no significant relationship between gender and attachment styles. There is significant and positive relation between secure attachment style and informative identity style, significant and negative relation between secure attachment style and normative identity style, significant and negative relation between secure attachment style and diffusion /avoidant identity style as well as. Secure attachment style is able to predict informative identity style. These findings highlighted the basic and dynamic role of child-mother first affective bonds quality in formation, settlement, and continue of fundamental trust, affiliation, experience training, exploration, power of problem facing, solution and especially identity.
