ABSTRACT

Introduction: Depression is the most common psychological reactions in patients with cancer that has a negative effect on functional status, hospitalization and treatment Cancer Patients. In this study, aim determine the scale of efficacy of mindfulness based cognitive therapy training (MBCT) on reduction depression cancer patients.

Methods: The present study, quasi-experimental with pre-test - post-test and for this purpose, 30 patients who were hospitalized with cancer and were chosen as sampling and available in two the experimental group (n = 15) and control group (n = 15) groups. The experimental group was presented in 8 sessions of mindfulness (MBCT). Both groups were evaluated through pre-test and post-test with the beck depression questionnaire. For data analysis of covariance was used.

Conclusion: The results showed that post-test scores in the experimental group was significantly less depression than the control group. Also no significant interaction between pre-test and control groups. So, rejected the null hypothesis of no difference between the two groups. It seems that teaching mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) can reduce depression in patients with cancer.
