Abstract

Introduction: Marital satisfaction is crucial for the stability and longevity of a shared life, and Islamic teachings can serve as a dependable guide for a fulfilling and stable marriage. This study was conducted to explore the impact of a marital enrichment educational program rooted in Islamic teachings on the marital satisfaction of couples.
Method: The current research was a semi-experimental study with an experimental group, a control group, and a pre-test, and post-test design, followed by a two-month assessment. The statistical population of this research comprised couples seeking assistance from two counseling centers in Tehran. Forty couples were purposefully selected and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (20 couples each) and a control group (20 couples). The experimental group participated in weekly group interventions consisting of 12 face-to-face sessions and 3 training workshops. Both groups underwent evaluations at three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up, utilizing the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using non-parametric tests, specifically the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests.
Results: The results showed that the intervention of the marital enrichment program based on Islamic teachings significantly improved marital satisfaction and its subscales, including Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Idealistic Distortion, in couples of the experimental group compared to the control group (P < 0.002). The follow-up test further indicated that the training's effect was enduring and significant (P < 0.001).
Discussion and Conclusion: The educational package designed to enhance marital life through Islamic teachings, an intervention program tailored to cultural norms, has proven effective in boosting the marital satisfaction of couples.
