Investigation of Structural Pattern of Relationship between FOMO Syndrome with Nomophobia by Mediating Parenting Stress in Adolescent of Isfahan

Abstract

Introduction: Excessive use of smartphones can be associated with a negative psychological effect known as nomophobia. The present research has investigated the structural pattern of the relationship between FOMO syndrome and nomophobia with the mediation of parenting stress in Isfahan teenagers.

Method: The method used was descriptive-structural-correlation design. The statistical population of the present study included all adolescents studying in the academic year of 1401-1402 in the high school of Isfahan city. The research sample included 244 boys and girls who were studying in the academic year of 1402-1401 in Isfahan city's first high school, who were selected by the available method. The sample subjects completed Yıldırım and Correa's nomophobia scale (2015), Fomo Przybelski et al.'s (2013) scale, and Abidin's (1995) parenting stress short form. The data were analyzed using the path analysis method. The data was analyzed by the path analysis method and using SPSS26 and Smart PLS software.

Findings: The results of the present study show that FOMO syndrome has a direct and significant relationship with nomophobia. Also, the relationship between FOMO syndrome and parenting stress is significant. On the other hand, parenting stress has a direct and meaningful relationship with nomophobia, and parenting stress significantly mediates the relationship between FOMO syndrome and nomophobia. (p>0.05)

Conclusion: The results show that the structural model of the relationship between FOMO syndrome and nomophobia with the mediation of parenting stress has a favorable fit.
