Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare brain-behavioral Systems, cognitive decision making and emotion regulation in adults with and without attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder.

Method: The research design was a comparative causal analysis of multivariate and univariate analysis of variance. The present study population was the students of University of Guilan. A sample of 320 people (120 people with symptoms and 200 people without symptoms) were selected by available sampling method from the mentioned population. Research tools used include the short form of passive self-assessment scale for ADHD of World Health Organization (ASRS), brain-behavioral systems questionnaire (BAS-BIS), general decision-making style questionnaire (GDMS) and short form Cognitive adjustment questionnaire (CERQ).

Result: The findings showed that there was no significant difference between adults with and without ASHD in terms of behavioral activation system and behavioral inhibition system. However, there is a significant difference between the two groups in terms of intellectual, intuitive, dependent, immediate and avoidant components of cognitive decision making. Also, uncompromising emotional adjustment strategies in adults with ADHD are more common in adults without ADHD, but compromised emotion regulation strategies in adults with and without ADHD are equal.
