Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Light Triad Scale (LTS) in a sample of undergraduate students.
Method: The statistical population of this descriptive-cross-sectional study included all undergraduate students of the academic year 2021-2022 at Shiraz University. The research sample comprised 602 students (483 female students and 120 male students) selected through convenience sampling. They participated in the study by completing an online questionnaire. The research utilized various tools including Kaufman et al. Light Triad Scale (2019), the Short Form of Goldberg’s Big Five Personality Scale (Khormaei & Farmani, 2014), Collins & Read’s Revised Adult Attachment Scale (1996), Gross & John’s Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2003), Jones & Paulhus’s Short Dark Triad (2014), Beckham’s et al. Cognitive Triad Inventory (1986), and Wallach et al. Freiburg’s Mindfulness Inventory Short Form (2006). The study employed exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, calculation of Cronbach's alpha coefficients, as well as assessments of convergent and divergent validity.
Results: The results of both methods of factor analysis have confirmed the existence of a three-factor structure in the studied students. Thus, the three factors of Kantianism, humanism, and faith in humanity together explained 52.8% of the total variance. The values of alpha coefficients for the entire scale and its three subscales were calculated in the range of 0.71 to 0.81, which was a good indicator of internal consistency. The significant correlation coefficients between the total score and the scores obtained from the three subscales with other research tools also demonstrate the appropriate convergent and divergent validity of the tool.
Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the Persian version of the Light Triad Scale (LTS) exhibits desirable psychometric properties among Iranian students.
