Abstract

Although stressful events are associated with negative experiences such as psychological distress and some mental disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder, some studies have shown that these events lead to psychological struggle and endurance in the individual and provide unique opportunities for growth. The term post-traumatic growth (PTGI) refers to positive and constructive changes that have arisen from traumatic events. In view of the research gap on the positive effects of coping with divorce in divorced women, the present study was conducted with the aim of identifying the factors affecting the growth of divorced women. In this phenomenological study, the statistical population included grown divorced women who had admitted to experiencing growth and had a score two standard deviations higher than the mean on the Tedeschi and Calhoun Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory, which reached theoretical saturation after interviewing 15 people. The sampling method in this study was purposeful, the interview was semi-structured, and the analysis method was phenomenological. The analysis of the interviews led to the identification of 18 subcategories and 5 main categories. Growth and flourishing after divorce has five components of individual, social growth and transformation, gaining independence, change in attitude, and increased self-care.
