Abstract
Introduction: Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds in worldwide. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of adjusting family cohesion and self-compassion in the relationship between thinking and suicide attempt in adolescents at Tehran city in 1399.
Method: This is a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population of the study consisted of all tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade male and female students at Tehran in the academic year 1398-1399 andsample was selected by multi-stage cluster method. data collection tools included; The Self-Compassion Scale was a family cohesion questionnaire and items of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt over the past 12 months. Data analysis was performed using the structural equation model and the least squares approach.
Results: The results showed that there is a significant inverse relationship between family cohesion and suicide attempt. There is also a direct and significant relationship between the negative dimension of self-compassion and suicide attempt. There is a significant inverse relationship between the positive dimension of self-compassion and suicide attempt, and other results showed that as suicidal ideation increases, suicide attempt decreases. The results of interaction analysis confirm the moderating role of self-compassion in the relationship between suicidal ideation and suicide attempt and each of its components, and family cohesion moderates the relationship between suicidal ideation and suicide attempt.
Discussion: This finding means that family cohesion acts as an effective external source and self-compassion as an effective internal source acts as a protective shield against adolescents' tendency toward risky behaviors.
