Introduction: The current research was conducted to assess the effectiveness of integrated transdiagnostic treatment on emotional awareness, cognitive regulation of emotions, and positive and negative emotions in anxious children.
Method: The research method was semi-experimental, involving experimental and control groups, pre-test, post-test, and a 45-day follow-up phase. The participants were anxious children aged 8-12 years, selected through multi-stage random sampling in the academic year of 2019-2020. Two experimental and control groups, each consisting of 15 individuals, were randomly assigned. The experimental group underwent Ehrenreich's (2019) integrated met diagnostic treatment over 15 sessions lasting 40 minutes each, while the control group did not receive any intervention. The research tools included the Anxiety Questionnaire (SCAS), Emotional Awareness Questionnaire (EAQ-30), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), and Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). The research data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measurements and SPSS-26 software.
Results: The results of the research showed that integrated meta-diagnostic treatment is effective on emotional awareness, cognitive regulation of emotion, and negative affect in anxious children aged 8 to 12 years. However, the findings of the research do not provide evidence regarding the impact of this treatment on enhancing the average score of positive affects in anxious children.
Discussion and Conclusion: It is concluded from the research that paying special attention to interventions for anxious children and providing necessary training to control anxiety within the framework of an appropriate approach (integrated transdiagnostic therapy) can enhance emotional awareness, cognitive regulation of emotions, and positive and negative emotions in anxious children. Finally, based on the findings, integrated transdiagnostic treatment can be considered an effective intervention for anxious children.
