Sexual dysfunctions have a high prevalence in psychiatric patients. These malfunctions may be formed due to the pathology or drug treatment approaches of psychiatric disorders. Several studies have investigated the relationship between sexual dysfunctions and psychiatric disorders. In this review study, an attempt has been made to examine this relationship and its dimensions by examining numerous researches conducted in this field. In general, the results of the studies show the effective role of psychiatric disorders and drugs in the formation of sexual dysfunctions. The positive symptoms of schizophrenia (such as psychosis and hallucinations) and its negative symptoms (such as Anhedonia), may negatively affect interpersonal relationships and sexual relationships. Depression and mood disorders may affect libido, sexual arousal, orgasm, and erectile function. Classic antidepressants have more side effects on sexual functions than second generation antidepressants. Also, anxiety disorders affect sexual dysfunctions such as sexual desire disorder, erectile function and orgasm problems. Patients with Feeding and eating disorders may suffer from sexual problems. Personality disorders, especially borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder, are related to sexual dysfunctions. Despite all these results, the study in this field has basic methodological limitations that should be taken into consideration in future studies
